ENABLING POLICIES THAT BRING GROWTH BY ALL, FOR ALL, TODAY AND TOMORROW.
It is a fact that though since the 2000s, Africa has registered robust economic growth (though not all countries), leading to some improvements in the situation of poverty and general human development, economic growth has still left inequality persistently high. Suggesting that it is not inclusive given the role of inequality in hindering growth and poverty reduction. This puts Africa’s growth itself and sustainability in Jeopardy. Socio-economic exclusions have put a number of African countries into situations of heightened fragility. Our work falls into six thematic areas as follows:
RESEARCH
- There are still significant knowledge gaps in the understanding of the drivers of the current and increasing socio-economic exclusions in African countries. One of our key goals is to identify knowledge gaps in the area of inclusive development in Africa and fill them through robust research that is accessible to development stakeholders.human capital
- ...
- Education & health human capital
- Climate change, environment & food security
- Migration, trade & industrial development
- Economic growth, poverty & inequality
- Institutions, governance & development
- Resource mobilisation for inclusivity
POLICY
- Much research exists on issues of inclusive development in Africa. However, these are either published in international journals beyond the reach of policy stakeholders, or too technical beyond the grasp of policymakers. Our primary goal is to identify rigorous research and translate into simple policy proposals that are understandable and usable in areas of inclusive development. Where research is lacking, we will undertake studies that will translate to policy proposals

CAPACITY BUILDING
- One reason why academic research may not be absorbed by policymakers is lack of capacity. Other areas of capacity development are in pre-empting the possible impacts of proposed policy measures and monitoring and evaluating of policies already implemented for adjustments and improvements in all tiers of government in African countries. The AIIG therefore proposes to build capacity on basic research; monitoring and evaluation; ex-ante and ex-post impact evaluation of policies by collaborating and assisting the capacities of local tiers of government especially the technical human resource directly involved in policy implementation and evaluations in African governments.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION
- In addition to assisting in enhancing the technical capacity of policy stakeholders, we also accompany policy implementation processes in monitoring and evaluation the implementation of proposed policies against set targets. Accompany policy implementation in:
- ...
- Ongoing monitoring of policies being implemented
- Periodic evaluation of ongoing policies
- Periodic feedback to policy stakeholders and advice on improvements
IMPACT EVALUATION
- Helping policy stakeholders to understand the impact of policies on main pillars of inclusivity is crucial. This is our fifth key pillar.
- ...
- Assessing the impacts of policies implemented
- Provide feedback and learnings to policy stakeholders
- Use outcomes to enhance the technical capacity of policymakers in view of next policy rounds
ADVOCACY
- Even when we know the right policies to be implemented, various interest groups can be significant obstacles to choosing the right policies and effectively implementing them. The AIIG works in partnership with like-minded organisations to advocate for the right policies in the interest of the poor and excluded segments of the society
